Now Scan to Digitize documents easily with Official Google Files App

Want to quickly digitize a long document by a tap on the touchpad? Files by Google app will help you accomplish just that with a single tap.

Just a few hours ago, Google rolled out a feature named Document Scanner to the Files by Google app. This feature is seen as an update on the server-side, you can get the feature without downloading the new version of the app.

How to make it work?

When you launch Files by Google on your phone, you will now see a Scan button. Once you tap the button, the app will begin scanning your documents and align them to your rear camera.

Here are list of other handful features that also comes with the new update –

  • Auto-capture

Google is also implementing other common features as well to this latest update. One of the useful features is titled Auto-capture that allows the user to set their own customized scan, as users will be able to dictate the scan area.

  • Ability to Customize the scans

After scanning the document, the tool also gives you options such as crop, rotate, clean, and add multiple filters to the scan to make it look as authentic as possible.

  • Ability to Compile the scans

You will also be able to take multiple scans and put them inside of a single document, a feature quite common with other scanning apps in the market.

  • Saving it as PDF document

When you are done taking the scan, the app will digitize the document by saving it as a PDF file under the Scanned folder. The folder will get created under the Documents.

When it comes to technicality behind Files by Google new feature, the system here uses ML Kit (Machine learning capability for Mobile Development), a new document scanner API (Application Programming Interface) to recognize and process documents on the go.

Lastly, the feature now can be used by anyone who holds a Google Pixel device. According to MIshaal Rahman, pixel devices will be seeing this latest update right away on their devices and many have confirmed.

Currently, there is no information regarding this feature rolling out on other Android devices. We might be able to see the update coming to other phones in later dates. But for now, if you own a pixel phone, then you can just launch the app to use the scan feature right away.

For the rest of the Android community, it seems like they will have to wait for a while to see the Scan feature on their app.
